Blue Sky, White Stars

What a fantastic new picture book!

Blue Sky, White Stars is written by Sarvinder Naberhaus and illustrated by Kadir Nelson.

It tells the story of America. But it tells the story of ALL America. With absolutely beautiful illustrations and a dialogue that is simple yet says so much, this book is a treasured gem just in time for July 4th. It shows that America is everyone’s America and embraces the true nature of diversity and inclusiveness. History and present, who we were and who we are, are all combined in this beautiful book.

It features and honors the flag, it tells about the struggles that Americans have faced to make the nation what it is, and it shows the achievements of the country as a whole.

A definite one to remember for a story-time around this time of year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one nominated for a Caldecott.

Please keep an open eye for this one, it’s well worth a read.
